Decorated journalist and tech entrepreneur Harun Momanyi has been named among the 2023 Rising Media Leaders by the International News Media Association (INMA).
The prestigious award is highly competitive, and Momanyi stood out from hundreds of applications from all around the world to make the final 30 awardees on the list. He graced the list alongside seasoned media industry executives from companies such as Newscorp Australia, The Washington Post, Bloomberg, Condé Nast, and Wall Street Journal.
Prior to winning the award, he was also nominated for Forbes Africa 30 Under 30 in 2018 and 2022. Over the years, he has established himself as a respected digital media practitioner and has been published by leading regional and global publications, including Business Insider Africa, OkayAfrica, Kenya Airways msafiri magazine, African Vibes Magazine and Bella Naija.
Momanyi started his digital media career in 2012 when he started his WordPress blog, and would later join Radio Africa Group where he worked as a digital journalist for about 4 years.
He would then move on to become a startup founder, formally registering Tranquil Media Group in 2021.
Tranquil Media Group specializes in online publishing, and its brands include Career Fodder, Fashion Today, African Celebrity Bios, and Techpreneurs Daily.
The company has had major milestones, including being the first startup from Kenya to participate in the Jamlab Accelerator for Sub-Saharan Africa and being admitted into the NVIDIA Inception program.
In October 2023, Tranquil Media Group was selected out of thousands of global applicants to take part in the AWS Build Accelerator program.
Speaking about the win, Momanyi spoke about how the journey to the top has been a uniquely challenging but fulfilling one.
“Being selected for the INMA 30 Under 30 Award is not only an honour but also marks the hallmark of my career in digital media. If you told me that I’d be feted on a global level when I was starting my WordPress blog over a decade ago, I wouldn’t have believed you. However, with careful nurturing of my craft over the years and eventually venturing into entrepreneurship, I finally did it. My aim has been to impact lives positively, and I am happy I have done just that,” he said.
Momanyi plans to use the newly gained exposure and platform to push the flagship product, Career Fodder to even greater heights. The platform aims to help professionals navigate the rapidly changing jobs market, which is currently marked by AI automation and massive job losses. By offering practical career advice and resources, the platform helps professionals remain relevant and prepare for the future of work.
